Mushroom cake pops

I made mushroom cake pops. They have delicious chocolate cake insides.

To make the mushroom shape, I formed the base using a large piping tip (like the kind used for meringue), then rolled the top, pressed the pieces together, and poked them with toothpicks to keep them together while they chilled.

The outside of a cake pop is generally covered in “melts;” these are, too. I made the polka dots first by piping melty melts into circles onto a plastic plate. I popped them into the fridge to chill, then applied the dots to the still-wet red melt surface.

The cake pops were made from the remnants of this cake, which was for someone named Gloria.
